Something special: prestige wines
For the March 2024 tasting members and guests will be treated to wines above the normal price bracket for CWS tastings. Liz Sagues, award-winning wine writer and a member of the society, will present four pairs of wines where classic prestige bottles will be challenged by much less familiar upstarts of a similar style and cost. Will the classics prove to be worth their renown – and price? Or will the challengers shine in comparison? Only by tasting will a verdict be reached.

For the February tasting Bush Vines are planning to show:
4 White wines – 2 each from Spain and Portugal
4 Red wines – 2 each from Portugal and Spain.
These wines will represent the many different wine styles from each country using indigenous grapes.
The tasting will finish with a Rioja Reserva!!

The ‘garden of France’ delivers summertime in a glass as no other can. Thanks to the river’s complex geology and diverse climates, there’s enviable variety, from the bone-dry, sappy muscadets of the delta through the astonishingly long-lived chenins of Touraine to the crisp sauvignons of the Central Vineyards of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Cool, poised, fragrant reds made from pinot noir, cabernet franc or gamay remain almost a trade secret, the effervescent Crémants less so.

With the choice of white or red, still or sparkling and dry, off-dry or intensely sweet, no other region could meet the demands of a complete tasting menu, from aperitif to dessert. In this celebration of the Loire we assemble more than 30 wines to try in the company of their growers.

Filling that fridge in time for summer will be easy!

About in person ‘taste-along’ events

These events are all about ensuring our members get to taste as many of our wines as possible. They vary in size and theme, but all provide a relaxed environment for our members to guide their own tasting with a glass and booklet provided on arrival. Whether you want to discover something new, reconnect with an old favourite or try a wine you’d never ordinarily approach, then our walkaround tastings could be for you.

Baristas from the UK compete to enter the final for the chance to go to the world championships in Athens.

We would welcome you to come along to watch and connect with the coffee community.

The competition runs from 9am to 6pm but if you can’t make the whole day you can pop in and out.

Coffee will be provided by the sponsors and an after party at 7pm at the Trading Post Coffee House, South Street will keep
the conversation and party going!
