Market Cross Works Complete
The Market Cross that has stood at the junctions of North, South, East and West Streets in Chichester since 1501 has been cleaned. The work carried out by Traditional Stoneworks was within budget and timescale. Apart from the stonework being cleaned, the weathervane was restored and returned to its rightful place on top of the Market Cross.
All the work carried out on the Market Cross was overseen by English Heritage and it is hoped that this restoration work will last another generation before it needs to be cleaned again.
The Market Cross remains an important icon and part of the City of Chichester’s history and culture.
