Services
The historical roots of the City Council can be traced back to 1135. Prior to local government organisation in 1974, the City Council had borough council status but is now a large and active Parish Council. A vigorous local campaign in 1974 ensured the retention of the title 'City' and, of course, the Mayoralty.
