E-Ink Wayfinding Display Pilot Project
Chichester City Council is launching a pilot project to trial the use of modern E-Ink display technology to improve wayfinding and public information in the city centre.
Three 13-inch E-Ink screens will be installed in key locations to provide evening navigation support and display up-to-date ‘What’s On’ listings for events and activities across Chichester. These innovative, battery-powered screens offer several advantages:
- Clear visibility in both daylight and at night
- Low energy usage, with batteries lasting up to five years
- Cloud-based updates, enabling real-time information management
This three-month pilot, due to begin in summer 2025, will help assess how digital displays can complement Chichester’s existing heritage-style fingerposts, especially after dark. During the trial, we’ll gather public feedback and usage data to help shape future plans.
The project is funded through £13,499 of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding already allocated to wayfinding improvements.
Pending a successful trial, more E-Ink screens may be installed citywide to support residents, visitors, and community groups. Future enhancements could include low-cost promotion for local events and community initiatives via the display network.
