MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE HELD ON WEDNESDAY 6 NOVEMBER 2019 AT 3.30PM

86. PUBLIC BODIES (ADMISSION TO MEETINGS) ACT 1960

RESOLVED that, in the view of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted, the public (including the Press) be excluded from the meeting for Agenda Item 3 only because of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted, namely confidential business matters.

87. THE MARKET HOUSE – PROPOSALS FROM ORION DEVELOPMENTS REGARDING MARKET HOUSE RENTALS

The Deputy Town Clerk outlined the current situation regarding rental income from the Market House.

Further to the Special Meeting of the Finance Committee held on 30 October 2019, the Deputy Town Clerk then presented Members with four scenarios that had been previously suggested, together with the cost implications to the City Council’s budget.

The Committee discussed the scenarios and what impact each would have on the City Council precept paid by local residents in their Council Tax. It was unanimously agreed by Members that it would be unfair on the taxpayers to shoulder any further loss in income from the Market House rental having already absorbed a significant drop in income.

It was therefore RESOLVED that the City Council would decline a change to the terms of the lease in regards to the rental income from the Market House.
