Weddings and ceremonial occasions
We believe that it is important to offer a personal service when booking a Ceremony at the Council House. We always recommend that a couple makes an appointment to visit us and meet with our Wedding Co-ordinator, Claire Adams, to discuss their wishes and preferences, without obligation.

On the wedding day, guests will see an information screen on arrival with your personalised wedding details. The main staircase is decorated with an ivy trail which leads to the Council Chamber. A lift is available as required.
A complimentary flower arrangement is provided for the Registrar’s table to colours of your choice and flower type where possible.

During the ceremony a member of staff is available to play your chosen music.
The Council Chamber, which can seat 55 guests, is licensed for weddings and partnership ceremonies.
The option of an aisle runner is available and the layout is entirely your choice.
Chair covers are not included in the overall cost of hire but are obtainable from a local business for approximately £3 per chair.
For couples who would prefer a smaller, intimate ceremony, with fewer guests, the Council Chamber can easily be adapted for this purpose.
Some couples choose to hold their ceremony in the Council Chamber and their reception in the Assembly Room. When visiting the Council House to view the venue, we would be happy to give advice and show pictures of reception layouts for consideration.
The Council House has disabled access to both floors and members of staff are on hand to assist throughout the ceremony and/or reception.

Wedding Receptions
There are two rooms which can be hired for a Reception either separately or following your Ceremony in the Council Chamber.


The Assembly Room (above left) on the first floor can cater for up to 120 seated guests. It has a stage for a musician/DJ and a floor ideal for dancing. It has a separate area for the catering with a small kitchen. It also has a bar that can be stocked by your choice of provider.
The Old Court Room (above right) on the ground floor can cater for a small reception of 40 people. It too has a small kitchen.
