The Big Swanfield Event to offer free health and wellbeing activities and support for the local community
Chichester District residents of all ages are being invited to attend the Big Swanfield Event, an exciting health and wellbeing afternoon on Monday 11 April at Swanfield Community Centre.
The event, which is organised by partners from Chichester Local Community Neighbourhood Network, will offer free activities, health checks and information sessions led by health and wellbeing experts.
Councillor Roy Briscoe, Cabinet Member for Community Services and Culture at Chichester District Council, says: “As we head into spring with longer days and warmer weather, there’s no better time to get out and about and focus on our health and wellbeing.
“The Big Swanfield event will give residents the opportunity to try new activities, such as Mindfulness and Tai Chi, as well as offering them a chance to talk to health and wellbeing experts over a free tea or coffee, with representatives from local GP practices, mental health charities and more.
“The council’s Chichester Wellbeing team will also be on hand to provide information and advice about how residents can access free support, including help with stopping smoking, weight management, and reducing alcohol intake — as well as booking for a free NHS health check. All of these services are designed to support residents with their health and wellbeing, and I know that this support has made a real difference to a great many people.”
The event has been organised by the Local Community Neighbourhood Network (LCNN), a multi-agency group that aims to support the local community following the pandemic. The group includes: Chichester District Council, A2 Dominion Voluntary Action Arun and Chichester (VAAC), West Sussex County Council, Health Watch, West Sussex Mind, Richmond Fellowship, Age UK West Sussex Brighton and Hove, Chichester Alliance of Medical Practices, Citizens Advice, and Community Transport Sussex.
Roy adds: “The event will include free activity sessions run by the council’s leisure provider, Everyone Active, as well as local community group SPRING, who are already very active in supporting the Swanfield community.”
“Chichester District Council is really proud to be part of the LCNN, which has already helped local residents access numerous services to improve their health and wellbeing. Supporting the mental and physical health of our residents is always a priority for the council, and this event will continue that effort.”
The council is encouraging residents to come along to The Big Swanfield Event, which will take place on Monday 11 April from 2pm to 4pm at Swanfield Community Centre, Chichester, PO19 6GH.
If you can’t make the event, the Chichester Wellbeing team offers a range of health and wellbeing support throughout the year. Residents can contact the team by calling 01243 521041 or emailing info@chichesterwellbeing.org.uk
