Neighbourhood Plan

This is the home page of the Chichester Neighbourhood Plan. Here you will find information about what the plan is and how we are going about creating it.

What is the Chichester Neighbourhood Plan?

Neighbourhood planning gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and shape the development and growth of their local area. A neighbourhood plan is a document that sets out planning policies for a local area. The plan will be used to decide whether to approve planning applications, including new buildings (e.g. community facilities) or changes to existing buildings (e.g. giving permission to change land uses within buildings). It can also set out the aims, objectives, and an overall vision for the future of a defined area.

Neighbourhood plans are written by the local community, the people who know and love the area, to ensure the community gets the right types of development, in the right place. Neighbourhood planning is supported by central government through the Localism Act.

The boundary of the Chichester Neighbourhood Plan will be the same as the administrative boundary of Chichester City Council.

The Steering Group

However, the City Council is work with other members of the community who are interested in or affected by the issues to allow them to play an active role in preparing a neighbourhood plan. A Steering Group of 12 people has been set up and comprises the following members:

How YOU can get involved

The Steering Group will manage the overall process but cannot do this successfully without significant contributions from the wider community.

A number of working groups covering organisation, PLACE studies, policy and public engagement have been formed and will be looking for volunteers to join them.

PLACE Assessments

The Community Engagement Group led by Ash Pal is running a series of neighbourhood PLACE assessments across the plan area. If you want to help organise and run a PLACE assessment, please see the download links below (PDF document downloads).

Complete PLACE assessments have now started to arrive. To see how they are progressing and to read some good examples, please visit the PLACE assessment page.

If you live in one of the unassessed areas and would like to get involved, please email the team at Feria Urbanism on info@feria-urbanism.com describing the area you will cover with reference to street names. The team at Feria Urbanism will then update the main digital survey map to ensure there is no duplication or overlap between groups.

For further information on the PLACE assessments, please contact Ash Pal who is leading the Community Engagement Group.
